Who are we? 

We have a dedicated team that provides cricket coaching for all ages and abilities within South Gloucestershire and surrounding areas. 

Our coaching is available to any child; irrespective of age, gender and ability, that has an interest in cricket and wants to improve their skills. We use the latest skills, drills and equipment to offer your child the best experience to develop their game and ultimately enjoy playing the game. 

Each session and course that we offer is carefully planned and professionally structured for each individual to improve their game in all elements; batting, bowling and fielding. 

James and Eddie

Head Coaches and Founders of South Glos Cricket Coaching

James is the current captain of Chipping Sodbury, in his 14th year leading the first XI, played youth cricket at Sodbury and represented West of England and England Schools. He has toured the West Indies and spent a season in Victoria, Australia.

He took more than 200 wickets for Knowle and played a season at Frocester. He has represented Glos CCC as a Spin Bowler from u10s to county second X1.

He is now enjoying supporting the development of young players and is able to lean on his (vast!) years of experience.

Eddie is a CSCC 1st XI all-rounder, that has progressed through the youth teams at Sodbury, and representing Stroud district and county youth teams; bowling and batting in the county colours.

Eddie is a qualified ECB coach, with years of experience coaching all levels of the game; ages U7s to U17s; also a part of the zonal pathway coaching programme for the GCF.

He has also travelled worldwide to develop his coaching and cricket overseas. Three seasons in New Zealand, performing as the player-coach, has refined his skills to pass onto all cricketers wanting to build their game.

Steve Hunter

Steve has five years’ experience as an ECB Level 2 cricket coach, with a real passion for coaching at both grassroots and performance levels. 

His coaching CV includes being a part of the coaching team that led the Chipping Sodbury U13 team to the GYCL League, BYCL Cup and BYCL League treble through the 2025 season. He also has strong experience of 1-2-1 coaching and mentoring young players on a successful journey from foundation and development levels to performance and County representative levels. Equally, Steve can frequently be found making a difference to young people’s lives when coaching as part of Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation and Chance to Shine programmes.

From a playing perspective Steve played County level Youth cricket, as a bowling all-rounder. His senior cricketing journeyhas included an increased focus on batting and wicket keepingand extends to playing league cricket in Australia. Nowadays,finding greatest joy playing in the same team as his sons, while opening the batting for Sunday Village team North Nibley or for Chipping Sodbury on a Saturday.

Jamie Wakefield

We’re thrilled to welcome Jamie (aka Wiggy/Wig) as the newest member of our team at South Glos Cricket!

Wiggy has been immersed in cricket his whole life, with a wealth of experience both on and off the pitch. He’s captained WEPL clubs Rockhampton and Chipping Sodbury, taking on various roles with dedication and skill. As head selector for senior sides, he’s gained exceptional insight into player development throughout the season—knowledge that’s invaluable to developing young cricketers.

As a qualified coach, Jamie brings a treasure trove of expertise to the table, having worked across all stages of the game. From coaching youth teams (U13s to U17s) to leading senior squads at WEPL levels, his track record speaks for itself.

On the field, Wiggy is a dynamic all-rounder: a specialist top-order left-hand batter and a potent front-line seam bowler. He’s the kind of player any cricket team would want, and we’re even more excited to have him join our coaching team!

Stuart Houghton

Stuart is a very experienced cricket coach and has coached on the Gloucestershire Pathway from 2XI to U10s.

He is the former Head Coach of the British Army and represented both the Army, Combined Services and Cambridgeshire as a player. Recently he has been coaching with Gloucestershire (Lead Coach U11s) the EPP and the Academy. He also works for Worcestershire as one of the EPP coaches.

He is currently completing his ECB Level 4 Specialist skills course where Wicket Keeping/Fielding and Batting are his specialisms.

He is currently the Head Coach of Cheltenham and works for Beaudesert Park School as a Sports and Games coach.

Jiwanjot Singh

Jiwanjot is a professional cricketer who currently plays for Uttarakhand in India. Averaging just under 40 in first-class cricket, he has represented India A and scored a double ton on his first-class debut!

An elegant top-order batter who holds the ECB level 2 coaching certificate, currently representing Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club.

It is a pleasure to have Jiwanjot on the coaching team to pass on his class and high-quality professional techniques.

Josh Breed

A 24 year old cricketer and coach from Cape Town, South Africa. He has represented Western Province in First Class cricket and Worcestershire 2nd XI!!

He has picked up a host a wealth of experience throughout the various levels having also recently captained Claremont CC to the WP Premier League title.

Along with the playing side, Josh has been coaching for years and holds an ECB Level 2 coaching certificate and currently coaches the University of Gloucestershire’s 1st XI! Just as keen to make a difference and get involved both on the field and in a coaching capacity, he can not wait to make a difference!

Wima Perera

Wima is a Sri Lankan professional fast bowler. A pool of experience and class performing at the highest level of the game! His passion is cricket; for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

This passion is throughout the game, all the way through to coaching and developing the game in others!

He has knowledge like no other and wants to share it with our cricketers!!

Jared Warner

Jared is an experienced and quality fast bowler for Gloucestershire County CC. He has progressed from Yorkshire youth and senior county teams across to Glos 1st XI, with game time also for England U19s!

He has amazing technical knowledge and application to pass on to keen, talented cricketers!

Will Naish

A young Gloucestershire county player and L2 coach! He has years of cricketing experience and valuable coaching skills, playing at the highest level of the game; being Frocester XI captain, and overseas experience in South Africa.

He has also been part of the coaching team with Eddie for the GCF Zonal teams.

Eric Woodmason

A very experienced coach, leading teams throughout the GCF and the county youth pathways. Eric is a L3 coach with quality and an endless pool of coaching knowledge to pass on to the next generation of cricketers.
